fix dell desktop keyboard and mouse adapters?
I have a dimension 3000 desktop from dell & my mouse and keyboard are not working. they are plugged in and the mouses lazer light on the bottom is on but they wont work. when i turn on the computer the keyboards light flashed but it still wont work and the LCD lights on the back of the computer are orange instead of green. How can i fix this problem?
p.s. i believe it is a ps2 plug for the mouse and keyboard.
The A & B adapters arent working,
the A adapter is flashing back and fourth green and and orange and the B is just orange.
Hi Anna,
One quick way to check if the keyboard is really working or not is to hit F2 when you first start up the computer. This will enter the BIOS setup. I wouldn't recommend that you change anything in there, but at least you will be able to determine if the keyboard itself is working or if it is just a WIndows issue. The BIOS menu works by using the arrow keys - you hit Esc to ext.
Those orange/green lights on the Dimension 3000 are LED indicators for the four USB ports right under the PS/2 ports. If you do not have anything plugged into the USB ports, then they should remain orange- like they are now.
If you can get into the BIOS and move around with the arrow keys, then you know it is not a hardware issue and it is a WIndows issue. REmember, you need to hit F2 right when the computer starts up and you see the DEll logo on the screen. IF it works, you will see "Entering setup..." in the top right corner of the screen.
Please do that to see if the keyboard is working and then post back here to let us know.
